  • Canada extends restrictions from on direct flights from India unitil 21 Sep 2021

    The Government of Canada continues to closely monitor the epidemiological situation, and will be working closely with the Government of India and aviation operators to ensure appropriate procedures are put in place to enable a safe return of direct flights as soon as conditions permit.

    Based on the latest public health advice from the Public Health Agency of Canada, Transport Canada is extending the Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) that restricts all direct commercial and private passenger flights to Canada from India until September 21, 2021, at 23:59 EDT.

  • Covid in Scotland: Overseas students could bypass Scottish hotel quarantine

    Universities are in talks with the Scottish government about plans which could let international students bypass hotel quarantine.

    Under current Covid guidelines, most people arriving in Scotland from overseas must quarantine for 10 days in an airport hotel at a cost of £1,750.

    Universities argue this acts as a barrier to international students.

  • New Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List for Australia

    As Australia’s international borders remain closed, the federal government has announced that it will fast-track visa applications for more occupations on the Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List (PMSOL) to support the country's post-coronavirus economic recovery.

    The expanded PMSOL for 2021 identifies a total of 41 ​priority occupations, including accountants, chefs, civil engineers and software programmers to fill onshore skill gaps and aid in job creation by attracting critically-important workers to Australia.

  • Graduate route to open to international students on 1 July 2021

    From 1 July 2021, international students who have successfully completed an undergraduate or master’s degree will be able to benefit from two years’ work experience in the UK upon graduation, through the new Graduate Route. Students who complete their PhD will be able to stay for three years.

    Here is everything you need to know:

    • The Graduate Route will be available to international students who have a valid student visa at the time of application and have successfully completed a degree at undergraduate level or above at a Higher Education Provider with a track record of compliance.
    • Successful applicants on this route will be able to stay and work, or look for work, in the UK at any skill level for a maximum period of two years if they have successfully completed an undergraduate or master’s degree. PhD graduates will be able to stay for three years. Graduates will be able to switch into skilled work once they have found a suitable job.
    • The new route will be launched on 1 July 2021, meaning that any eligible student who graduates after this date will be able to apply for the route. This includes students who have already started their courses. 
    • The Graduate Route will require a new visa application, which will only be possible from inside the UK. 
    • It will include the payment of a visa fee of £700 and the Immigration Health Surcharge at the full rate of £624 per year.
    • Students will also need to know the Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) they used for their most recent Student (or Tier 4) application in order to apply for the Graduate Route.

  • US Consulate resumes visas appointments for students

    Indian students who have taken admission in American universities in the 2021-22 academic year can book appointments now at the United States embassy in New Delhi and US consulates in other Indian cities. The US embassy has decided to start an intensive two months of interviews starting July 1. Embassy officials said “tens of thousands of interview slots” would be available from Monday. However, parents who want to go to the US to “help their children settle” cannot accompany them at this time as the US government has still not opened B1/B2 visas for tourists.

  • Macquarie University India Scholarship 2022

    Macquarie University, one of Australia’s top 10 universities, announced scholarships to provide financial support to outstanding students from India who plan to study there.

    The university offers upto $40,000 scholarship for Indian students enrolling in undergraduate programme and upto $20,000 scholarship for postgraduate programmes

    The scholarships will be disbursed all coursework programmes commencing in 2021/2022. This would mean a student enrolling in as $10,000 annual scholarship towards tuition fees covering a 4-year undergraduate degree would receive $40,000 over 4 years or approximately 25-30% off their total tuition fees
